When preparing for the MD-101 exam, or any Microsoft exam, Microsoft Docs is a great source of information. It is such a vast repository of information however, finding the relevant content can sometimes be challenging.

One method I used when preparing for the MD-101 exam, as well as planning episodes for the Managing Modern Desktops (MD-101) course at ITProTV, is to use the exam objectives as a roadmap, and search for each topic on (Tip: use your google-fu and add to your search).

Below are the MD-101 exam objectives, with links to the relative content from Microsoft Docs. This is not meant to be an all inclusive list, but a starting point. These links might take you to an overview page for a topic, but usually there are corresponding How-To or Quickstarts that you should look at as well.

Deploy and update operating systems (35-40%)

Plan and implement Windows 10 by using dynamic deployment

Upgrade devices to Windows 10
Manage updates
Manage device authentication

Manage policies and profiles (25-30%)

Plan and implement co-management
Implement conditional access and compliance policies for devices

Manage and protect devices (20-25%)

Manage Windows Defender
Manage Intune device enrollment and inventory
Monitor devices

Manage apps and data (10-15%)

Deploy and update applications
Implement Mobile Application Management (MAM)

  1. I am planning to sit for the exam (MD-101) in Jan 2021, and i think your suggestions are very helpful and on point. I have experience ( MCP continuosly certified since 2005), however: experience is not enough to take a Microsoft Exam.

    I totally agree that finding exactly what you want/need from Microsoft Docs is daunting. I’m very glad you were able to sift through to the pertinent information.
